The PIA3761 is one of the PIA series of electric guitars introduced by Ibanez for 2020. It is a signature model of American guitarist Steve Vai and represents a departure from the JEM series, which has been Vai’s signature series of guitars since their debut in 1987.
The PIA (Paradise in Art) continues to use an RG super Strat-style body and the “Lion’s Claw” tremolo cutaway that has always been a feature of the JEM, but eschews the JEM’s monkey-grip grip in favor of a different pattern carved into the body.
Other changes include the edges of the body being beveled and softened for unique ergonomics and a softer feel. In addition, the “Tree of Life” inlays have been slightly modified and renamed PIA blossom. It is believed that the name of the new series is inspired by Vai’s wife, Pia. All new pickups as well, the PIA is in fact equipped with the new DiMarzio UtoPIA that, according to Steve, offer softer highs, deeper mids and more pronounced basses. The covers were designed by Mike Mesker, DiMarzio’s graphic designer, to add a unique touch to the guitar.
