Following in the footsteps of Muffuletta (released in 2015), Bonsai uses a simple knob to go through nine variations of classic, vintage, rare, or hard-to-find Screamers. The creation of Bonsai became a kind of archaeological dig deep into the history of this track by examining dozens of versions, variations, and replicas. At the end of it all, Josh chose nine of his personal and favorite units that were painstakingly replicated in every aspect and nuance of each pedal. One of the most challenging parts of this project was the consideration of component drift since many of these pedals were decades old and the internal components had drifted away from their original values. Each pedal was individually replicated using the Audio Precision analyzer and various other methods that allowed every aspect of the sound and feel of the unit to be perfectly replicated.
Features:
OD1 – Overall, a brighter and slightly higher gain mode than using the Tone knob
808 – The classic low gain with those signature pronounced mids
TS9 – Almost identical to the TS-808 but with a little more mid-bass range
MSL – Has a higher gain sound with a lower range and stickier sound
TS10 – Made famous by John Mayer, this late 1980s model is a slight upgrade from the TS9
XR – The EXAR is a Polish-made TS-style pedal with a lead character with a bit more gain than classic screamers
KEELEY MOD PLUS – Strengthens the sound by giving you a smoother midrange and high frequencies and more bass response
JHS STRONG MOD – The JHS mod produced since 2008, it is much cleaner and overall more powerful
