The Echoplex EP-3 Tape Echo is famous for its warm tone, organic modulation, and sweet, musical voice. It is a key component in some of the most iconic sounds of the 1970s. However, the original EP-3 unit is very expensive and larger than a VCR. That’s where the Echoplex Delay EP103 pedal comes in. With the small footprint of a Phase 90, the EP103 delivers the legendary sound of the EP-3 with a simple interface and high-fidelity analog signal. The Delay control sets the repeat time from 4ms to 750ms, the Sustain control sets the number of repeats, and the Volume control sets the output level of the repeats. This pedal is at its best when used in AGE mode.
By default, the pedal is perfectly calibrated, bright, clear, and with subtle Wow and Flutter modulation. Simply press the volume knob to age the sound of your repeats, darken the tone, increase saturation, and increase modulation by turning the knob clockwise. The EP103 delay signal gets the same treatment as the EP101 Echoplex Preamp, while the dry signal remains unchanged. To get the full EP-3 Tape Echo experience, place the EP101 Preamp before the EP103. The Echoplex Delay also offers Tap Tempo functionality for up to 4 seconds of Delay Time, just pair it with the MXR M199 Tap Tempo. The dry signal is completely analog with Constant Headroom Technology, providing 20 volts of headroom and the option to choose between True Relay or Trails Bypass mode. The EP103 can be set to 100% wet mode with stereo input and output.
