METROPOLITAN is a 2-channel combo with custom 8” Jensen speakers.
33 x 37 x 25 cm are its dimensions, which are incredibly small.
Its acoustic structure is built around birch plywood of calibrated thickness, so as to achieve a slightly resonant sound response. The heart of this little “monster” beats thanks to a pair of class AB EL84s and an output transformer designed as if it were that of a much larger amplifier. METROPOLITAN has two totally independent channels, CLEAN and DRIVE. The former features an extremely effective and progressive tone control (WARM – SHINE), something that is hardly encapsulated in a single control.
The tonal variations are such that they literally move the sound from one dimension to another: from the edgiest funk to jazz, easily touching rock, blues and country. Pushing with the volume beyond the “clean” barrier results in a very pleasant ending crunch. The DRIVE channel is unquestionably impressive considering the size. Lots of punch and definition, but with the smoothness that always sets us apart.
Special note goes to the brand new and very functional TEXTURE control that allows you to shape the type of distortion, making it either modern or generously vintage. To this revolutionary control we have added one called AIR, which adds breath to the frequencies useful for defining the perceived sound.
