1968 was a transitional year for Fender amplifiers, with a tone that was still distinctively Fender, but an entirely new design. With a silver and turquoise front panel and a sleek grille cloth finish known as the “drip edge” (because of the aluminum profile between the panel and the front grille), the Deluxe Reverb underwent a complete design overhaul while remaining the ideal amp for recording and gigging.
Small, lightweight, and mid-powered, it produced an energetic tube tone with unmatched Fender reverb and vibrato effects. Since then, the Deluxe Reverb has been the reference amplifier for the classic Fender sound, adopted by countless guitarists. The Custom Deluxe Reverb ’68 is a tribute to the classic design, sound and performance of Fender amps from the late 1960s.
With a special modification, both channels boast reverb and tremolo and the Custom channel features a modified Bassman tone control that gives greater tonal flexibility with pedals. The amp also features a faster gain attack and reduced negative feedback for greater touch sensitivity. The ’68 Custom Deluxe Reverb’s 12″ Celestion G12V-70 cone also lends a more distinctly rock’n’roll feel.
