Kemper Profiling Amplifier Rack is the 19″ rack version of the “lunchbox” version, with an almost identical interface. For those still unaware of the Kemper revolution, suffice it to say that until its arrival one could create guitar and amplifier sounds thanks to the myriad of plug-ins and software for amp emulation, including the legendary distortion. From the Kemper onward, it is possible to literally clone the sound produced by the settings on the actual amplifier picked up by the microphone in the studio, including distortion, through a principle of capturing and analyzing the signal generated by the Kemper and sent to the amplifier. Kemper’s gimmick, ingenious but also simple, is that it has provided amplifier profiling and algorithms to emulate it, with a simple, guitarist-friendly interface. Now with the rack version it will be hard to resist installing it in the studio.
