Brian May’s trademark is the special red guitar, which he built with his father as a teenager in the early 1960s. Since the wood for the guitar came from an old fireplace siding, it is also nicknamed “Chimney”.
The Brian May special antique cherry wood is a replica of this legendary guitar. The body is drilled and milled and is made of mahogany. The mahogany neck is glued into the body and carries a 24-fret fingerboard in medium jumbo format. Thanks to the 24″ scale length, Brians Special offers not only comfortable dimensions, but also full control over wide bends.
The Red Special features three single Brian May Custom Tri-Sonic Style coils, whose special circuitry ensures the flexible sound of the original. The pickups can be individually activated or deactivated via three slide switches. Three additional sliders allow you to activate or deactivate the phase of the pickups.
The Brian May Red Special uses a high-quality Wilkinson vibrato with 2-point suspension and brass cavaliers as the bridge, while Rotomatic grover locking mechanisms make string changes much easier and increase tuning stability due to fewer axle windings.
