On 6/15/2017 a really new OCD was released, different enough to warrant the V2 designation. Fulltone’s Obsessive Compulsive Drive (OCD) is an Overdrive/Distortion circuit that differs from other overdrives in that it has much more range-dynamics-which means that the difference between a soft or louder plectrum will produce a more natural and wider variety of distortion (with less compression) than traditional diode overdrives.

OCD also creates complex harmonics without changing the original sound of whatever amp and guitar you are playing. The OCD creates its tube-like distortion by pushing its JFET Opamp into overdrive, and hard-clipping the signal with a pair of MOSFETs further up the circuit. This topography did not exist in a pedal before OCD, and the circuit works very well with a wide range of guitars and amps.

Because of the large amount of volume available, the OCD works excellently as a booster in front of the amplifier, as well as a Master-Volume for drives much more driven than most ODs, but it also excels at creating its own distortion with all the sound of a Class A amplifier and its complex array of harmonics.

Class-A wired JFET input increases impedance from the 330K of previous versions to 1 Mega-Ohm, allowing it to interface better with all types of pickups, isolating the input from anything that comes before the OCD in the signal chain, and giving the pedal more touch sensitivity than any other OCD version, or any other similar pedal
Buffered output completely isolates the pedal from the influence of everything that follows it in the signal chain and allows much more sustain and harmonics than previous OCDs, even at low distortion settings
Internal “True-Bypass” (TB) or “Enhanced Bypass”” (EB) selector. EB is an innovation by Fulltone, a vast improvement over the JFET or Bi-Polar buffers used by other companies. Fulltone’s EB does not have the out-of-phase and sound losses of most circuits
