The JHMS4 Shrine Series Band of Gypsys is the fuzz pedal from Dunlop’s Authentic Hendrix series. With a custom finish inspired by the famous poster for Jimi Hendrix’s 1968 concert at the Shrine Auditorium, this pedal recreates the mysterious growling fuzz sound that the guitar legend used in several iconic performances. Housed in a small body, the Jimi Hendrix Shrine Series Band of Gypsys Fuzz is based on a mysterious Fuzz Face Distortion that Jimi Hendrix used in several iconic shows between 1969 and 1979, most notably in the Band of Gypsys performance. Red with white knobs, this particular fuzz was completely different from the other Fuzz Faces in his arsenal, growling with an aggressive, scratchy sound. The pedal itself has gone down in history, but its unmistakable sound lives on in recordings. Dunlop engineers identified that sound as coming from an Octavio circuit that did not have the pedal’s famous octave-up effect. After making a few modifications, they came up with the Band of Gypsys Fuzz Face Mini Distortion. Now you can get the same sound Jimi used to mesmerize crowds in some of his most famous performances.
