The Vulture began its life when Michael connected to one of the very first pedals built. This pedal had a sound that T-Rex liked, but it was a bit unhinged in the low end. At T-Rex they wanted to make a pedal with that sound, but with a more defined, less fuzzy low end and with more gain. The pedal was opened and carefully measured to find out why it sounded so good, and a couple of resistors were found that would have sounded better with other values. Had it been modified from the beginning, or was it just a mistake with a great sound when it was built in Lars’ basement in the 1990s? All that is known is that the basic sound was great, and it was left as it was by continuing to focus on how to get a sharper, but great bass band.
