In the early 1990s, digital synths with many presets and a limited number of direct controls dominated the scene. JD-800 changed the whole scenario in 1991, taking the synthesizer world back to its roots with a panel full of controls and aggressive electronic timbres. The Roland JD-08 includes the original hardware’s 64 presets and perfectly recreates the four-Tone structure, 108 waveforms, and unique two-part multi-effects that are the basis of the JD-800’s complex and evolving sounds.
While maintaining the original design of the JD-800 in this modern version, the upgrades introduced take the experience to a whole new level. New patches, plus 256 memory locations allow you to dive into the vast arsenal of controls to create new sounds for your music. And with expanded polyphony and two-part multitimbral capabilities, there is even more room to express your sound ideas.
After creating patches, take advantage of the two-part polyphonic sequencer and start programming leads, bass lines, or basic chords synchronized to other components of your electronic ensemble. And to give animation and movement to sounds, take full advantage of motion recording and the internal arpeggiator to make your musical lines dance.
The Roland JD-08 has a built-in audio/MIDI interface via USB-C, so you can play, record and sync with all kinds of computer-based production software. Standard MIDI input and output are also available to interface with other MIDI hardware. And there is also an external clock input to drive the JD-08’s internal sequencer and arpeggiator from vintage analog instruments and modern Eurorack systems.
With its compact size, the JD-08 fits everywhere, and is easily controlled from a master keyboard or DAW. It can run on standard AA batteries for hours of jamming freely, and there’s even a full speaker for monitoring sound when you’re on the go.
